Tullahoma 13s Finish Third in State with 1-6 Loss to Marshall County

[Summary by Randy Sharp]

Tullahoma's bats were unusually cold again in their rematch with host team Marshall County in the State tournament's loser's bracket finals Monday night. Tullahoma managed only 1 run from 5 hits and left the bases loaded in the top of the 7th to end their hopes to play Giles County for the State Championship, a team they beat twice to win the Mid-Area "A" tournament. Marshall County struck starting Tullahoma pitcher Justin Crago for 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to take an 0-3 lead. Tullahoma answered in the top of the 4th with a leadoff single by Cale Greenway, and David Hess drove him in with 1 out to close the score to 1-3. But Marshall County struck for 3 more runs in the bottom of the 4th for the final score, and outscored Tullahoma 1-14 in both State tourney games. David Hess relieved Crago in the 5th with 2 innings of scoreless relief but Tullahoma could not plate any more runs. Tullahoma outscored their Sunday opponents, Lexington and Humboldt, 23-9 to advance to Monday's loser's bracket final but once again could not get anything going against the host team. Without leadoff hitter James Plaisted, out due to an injury from Sunday's Humboldt game, the Tullahoma dugout was down even before the game started and could not find the spark they needed to get things going. Tullahoma hitting was held to 5 scattered singles by Hess (1 RBI), Greenway, Jesse Haywood, Sebastian Charbaneau and Cody Farr. Still it was a great post-season tournament run for the Tullahoma 13s: District 6 Champs, Mid-Area "A" Champs, and 3rd place in State! And will be a great foundation to build on for next year's 14s team. Congrats to all on great post-season play - you played like champions throughout - and good luck next year boys - your coaches and parents are very proud of you all!
