Bulldogs Win First-Ever Frank Mullins League Tournament

  The Frank R. Mullins Youth Football League held it’s first ever City Tournament on 28 – 29 October 2006. All games were played at Wilkins Stadium. In the first game on Saturday, the Woodard Diamond Showroom Bulldogs defeated the Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets. The Bank of Tullahoma Tigers and the Mike Thompson Ford Falcons battled to a scoreless tie and the Falcons advanced in the tournament with the best overall record in regular season.   In the consolation game on Sunday, the Bank of Tullahoma Tigers hosted the Short Stop Market Yellow Jackets. The Tigers opened the scoring as Montrell Berry rambled 30 yards for a score and he also added the conversion. Tigers lead 7 – 0. In the second quarter, the Tigers score again as Luke Frederick, getting a rare opportunity to touch the ball, burst into the end zone from three yards out and the conversion attempt failed. The Tigers lead 13 – 0. Zack Lampkins got the Jackets on the board as he raced 65 yards for the score and the conversion attempt failed. Later in the second quarter, Tiger quarterback launched a pass to Berry for a touchdown covering 19 yards and the conversion attempt failed. Tigers lead at the half 19 – 6.

  The Tigers open the second half scoring with a nine yard burst by Montrell Berry and the conversion attempt failed. Tigers lead 25 – 6 after three-quarters. The Jackets got on the board again in the fourth quarter as Austin Creasman rambled for 46 yards and a Jacket touchdown and the conversion attempt failed. Late in the fourth quarter, Austin Sisco made a big hit for the Tigers jarring the ball loose from the Jackets and big Phillip Lett picked up the ball and lumbered 15 yards for the Tiger touchdown and the conversion was good. Tigers win 32 –12.

  Mike Frederick, head coach of the Tigers, applauded the work of Montrell Berry, Ryan Lawson and Austin Sisco on offense and Luke Frederick, Bruce McGee, and Phillip Lett on defense. Head Jacket coach, Jason Dendy, praised the efforts of Austin Creasman and Jacob Shelton on offense and Haden Eggleston, Marselis Scott, and Jason Young on defense.

  In the tournament championship game, the Woodard Diamond Showroom Bulldogs hosted the Mike Thompson Ford Falcons. The Bulldogs drew first blood as they scored in the first quarter on a pass from quarterback, Sammy Tomes, to Josh Majors covering 35 yards. The conversion was good and the Bulldogs lead 7 – 0. Jordan McKelvey added another Bulldog touchdown as he burst into the end zone from two yards out, the conversion was good and the Bulldogs lead 14 – 0. Late in the second quarter, Andrew Batts picked off a Falcon pass to stop a Falcon threat. Bulldogs lead 14 – 0 at the half.
