Rick Roepke] Offense: 14 runs on 14 hits from 36 plate appearances; 19 balls-in-play, 3 walks, 14 strikeouts Defense: 6 runs allowed on 7 hits from 31 batters; 3 errors; 2 walks, 14 strikeouts, 1 hit batter Tullahoma 1 0 3 5 0 5--14 Lexington 0 1 1 0 0 4--6 Defensive Summary: Brad Roepke pitched 5 innings, followed in relief by Zach Lampkin and Marquel Hickerson. Roepke struck out 13 of 21 batters, giving up 2 runs on 3 hits with no walks. Zach Lampkin pitched in the 6th, but due to pitch counts, was relieved by Marquel Hickerson to complete the win. Lampkin struck out 1 of 4 batters, while Hickerson got the final two outs of the game. Roepke and Hickerson are eligible to pitch again Saturday if needed, and all of the other pitchers are available for the championship game on Friday. Offensive Summary: Zach Lampkin started the game off with a hit, followed by a Trey Burks walk. A double by Brad Roepke drove in the first run of the game. The third inning again saw Zach Lampkin, and Trey Burks score two via timely hits and defensive errors, followed by Marquel Hickerson's solo home run. The fourth inning started with Josh Brandon walking, and singles by Justin Brandon and Caleb Zidan to load the bases, which allowed Trey Burks to drive in a run on a single, and a 2-RBI triple by Sam Tomes followed by a steal home to put the game out of reach at 9-2. The American's put up 5 more runs in the top of the sixth, with Lampkin, Burks, Hickerson, Lawson and Justin Brown getting hits, followed by a two RBI home run by Alex Butaud that cleared the umpires trailer home outside the park. All-star plays: Despite giving up a solo home run, Brad Roepke shut down the Marshall County team for 5 innings. Pitch counts required he be replaced in the 6th inning, and a late rally by Marshall County was shrugged off by the American's, who dug in and got the final two outs with bases full. Pitching, coupled with agressive base running by the entire team, were keys to Tullahoma's victory. Tullahoma plays Friday at 7 p.m. at the Gallatin Municipal Park American Legion Little League field for the 2007 state championship. |
