Powerful Eaglettes Prove Too Much for Lady Wildcats

Lady Cat sophomore Holly Kiser battles a pair of Shelbyville players for the ball during Friday night't game.

There was never very much mystery to Friday night’s matchup between the Tullahoma Lady Wildcats and Shelbyville. The Eaglettes brought an unblemished district record to the fray in addition to the state’s number-one ranking, and it was quickly evident that they were too big, too fast and too talented for the Lady Cats. The result 65-27.
It was 17-2 after the first quarter, and by the time Varonica Stewart scored for the Lady Cats in the first minute of the second period, the lead had grown to 22-2. An Andrea Cutshaw three-pointer and a Chrissi Edens basket got Tullahoma within 24-9 with 4:49 left in the half, but that was as close as it would get. A 10-2 Shelbyville run made it 34-11 at the half.
The biggest positive for coach Katie Galloway’s Lady Wildcats was that the lineup included three sophomores most of the night, and at times there were four sophs on the floor at the same time.
The Eaglettes were led by junior post player Alex Jarrell, a sure-fire Divison 1 prospect who had 16 points. Another probably college prospect, senior Anisha Buchanan, added 13. Cutshaw led the Lady Wildcats with nine points, and Erica Gilbert added six.
The Lady Cats dropped to 0-6 in district play with the loss while Shelbyville improved to 6-0. Tullahoma faces another team that has had its fair share of struggles this season, Warren County, today at 6:30 p.m. at the THS gym.
