EAGLEVILLE---The Tullahoma Lady Wildcat freshmen got their high school careers off to a successful start with a 47-41 win over the Eagleville junior varsity squad Tuesday night.
The Lady Cats got off to a good start, then fell behind after struggling with the Lady Eagles’ full-court pressure. They finally solved that problem in the second half, however, and even on a cold shooting night, had enough firepower to take and hold the lead down the stretch.
Coach Lindsey Warbington was also missing a couple of players, Meghan Brayton and Erica Raths, with ankle injuries and another who sat out the game for missing practice.
The game marked the debut of the most highly anticipated freshman class to come into the program in several years, and while it wasn’t always pretty, especially the shooting percentage, they didn’t disappoint in the end.
Point guard Danae Thornburg scored four quick points in her first high school game, but unfortunately she also picked up two quick fouls and spent most of the first half on the bench. She made up for it in the second half, though, with 12 more points for a team-high 16 total.
The Lady Cats got a big lift from Sarah Washington in the first half, especially in the second period when she scored six of her eight first-half points. Olivia Barlow had a cold first half but came on strong in the second half with 11 points, including five of six from the free-throw line.
Eagleville had only three freshmen players, so the rest of the squad was made up of sophomores.
The Lady Cats face Warren County at home Monday at 6:30 p.m.

Lady Wildcats (47) Kristina Tucker, 6; Olivia Barlow, 11; Camberleigh Davis, 2; Jenna Larson, 4; Danae Thornburg, 16; Sarah Washington, 8.
