Senior Andrea Cutshaw puts up a shot during Friday night's game at Lincoln County.

FAYETTEVILLE---Lincoln County’s Lady Falcons (4-3, 1-0) scored the first 12 points of the second half and cruised to a 70-45 win over the Tullahoma Lady Wildcats (0-7, 0-1) in the opening game of District 8-AAA play for both teams Friday night.
Lincoln County had already built a solid half-time lead at 30-16, but the surge to open the second half put the game in the bag. Many of those 12 straight points came on the same play, a short lob pass to post player Savannah Hill behind the Lady Cat defense for easy layups.
A double whammy on the stat sheet thwarted any hopes of a Lady Wildcat upset—26 trips down the floor with no shot due to turnovers, and 30% accuracy (13 for 44) when they did get a shot off.
The Lady Cats gave coach Katie Galloway a tough effort on the boards, out-rebounding the host team 38 to 34, but the Lady Falcons poured in a back-breaking 36 points off Tullahoma turnovers and nailed eight 3-pointers.
The Lady Wildcats were hanging on through the first quarter and a half with a hustling defensive effort, but after an Emily Gilbert basket made it 22-12 with 3:08 left in the second quarter, Lincoln County eased out to its 14-point half-time edge, then came the 12-point run in the first 2:48 of the third quarter to decide the game.
An Andrea Cutshaw three-pointer ended the Lady Wildcat drought, but Lincoln County eventually stretched the margin to 34 late in the game before baskets by Cutshaw, Chelsea Jackson, Erica Gilbert and Desiree Seay cut into the lead.
Things don’t get any easier for the Lady Cats, who head to Franklin County Tuesday to take on a Rebelette squad that pounded Coffee County 71-46 in Manchester Friday night. In the first big showdown game of the district season, Lawrence County defended the home turn with a 46-40 win over Columbia. Shelbyville played outside the district Friday night.
