The Tullahoma Lady Wildcats captured the District 8-AAA volleyball championship with a thrilling, four-game win over Lincoln County Thursday night at the THS gym.
Following the match, coaches voted Lady Cat senior Danielle Moen tournament most valuable player, and teammates Kendra Sigler and Chandler Lawson were named to the all-tournament team along with Lincoln County’s Susan Wilson, Bartie Scott and Sloan Brooks, Lawrence County’s Christy Williams and Columbia’s Brittany Chreech.
The Lady Cats appear to be peaking at the right time, playing at the top of their game in the tourney. And, they needed that against a tough Lady Falcon squad that has tested them in every meeting this season. Lincoln County beat Columbia 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 in the semi-finals to earn a shot at Tullahoma.
After dispatching Lawrence County in the semi-finals Thursday afternoon 25-6, 25-8, 25-9, the Lady Cats got off to a strong start in the finals with a 25-13 first-game win over Lincoln County. The Lady Falcons bounced right back, though, with a 25-14 win in game two (first team to win three games wins in high school volleyball).

Chandler Lawson goes up for a kill during the Lady Cats' semi-final win over Lawrence County.

In the crucial third game, senior Morgan Daniel went on a hot streak with her serve to help break open a very tight contest. With the score tied 5-5, Daniel served 14 straight points, including several aces, to put her team up 19-5 on the way to a 25-8 win.
While momentum had definitely come Tullahoma’s way, game four turned into a dog fight. The Lady Cats built up a small advantage in the middle of the game, but Lincoln County battled back and led late in the contest 22-20. But, the Lady Cats responded with some big serves from Moen and some big hits up front from Sigler and Lawson and pulled out the win 25-23.
Tullahoma and Lincoln County will match up with District 7’s Cookeville and Lebanon Monday in the Region 4-AAA tournament at the THS gym. Lincoln County will face the champion of that district at 4 p.m., and the Lady Cats will face the second-place team immediately afterward. The region championship game will follow that one.
