[Hunter Norris Photos] The Tullahoma Middle School wrestling team traveled to the 2nd Annual Cookeville Duals this weekend and came home with an impressive 3rd place trophy in a field of 12 teams from Middle Tennessee. Tullahoma, which has recently been forfeiting three weight classes, won easily its pool of four teams including Clarksville, Blackman B Team, and Sycamore. They moved on face the other two pool winners--Blackman A Team and Hendersonville--both of whom gave them fits last week in a quad match. Even though Tullahoma gave a much better effort this day, the Wildcats still finished third. The squad was led by Josh Thompson and Deonta Smith who were both undefeated on the day at 5-0. Also competing well were Brandon Brunner, Nick Smith, Perrin Norris, and Jacob Shelton with only one loss each at 4-1. Coaches Max Gessler and Terry Garner were very pleased with the effort of the team including first-year wrestlers Bradley Daniel and Tyler Hulgan. Luke Frederick and Cameron Brinkley are expected to return soon from injuries. The team travels to powerhouse Chattanooga Baylor this Thursday and The Commando Clash Saturday in Hendersonville. |
