by Mike McGee [Team Photos]

The Tullahoma Wildcats and Lady Wildcats both won district golf championships Monday at Lawrenceburg Golf and Country Club, and Wildcat senior Derek Cates earned low-medalist honors for the boys.
Cates’ even-par 71 led the Wildcats to a 307 team score, which was good enough for a nine-shot victory over Columbia (316) and 15 strokes over Lawrence County (322). All three teams qualified for next Monday’s region tournament at Old Fort Golf Course in Murfreesboro.
Senior Morgan Hale was second-place medalist for girls with a 77 with Franklin County’s Hannah Weathersby firing a one-under 69 to claim low-medalist honors. The Lady Cats shot 161 as a team with Julianne Swafford’s 84 earning her fourth-place among individuals and combining with Hale’s 77 for the winning team score. Lindsey Linerode’s 92 did not count in the team score.
Lawrence County (169) and Franklin County (172) also qualified for the region tournament Monday at Old Fort.
Cates was not the only medalist for the district champion Wildcats. Tyler Hatfield had the third-lowest score with a 76, and Tyler Bailey finished fourth with a 77. John Merz’ 83 rounded out the Wildcat team score with Jordan Haugen’s 86 not counting.
