EAGLEVILLE---The Tullahoma Wildcat freshmen had a tough assignment in their first outing of the season Tuesday night, a matchup against an Eagleville junior varsity team that featured several sophomore players.
In the end, the Cats dropped a 47-37 decision but not before putting up a spirited battle. They trailed 9-8 after the first period thanks to three-pointers by Jordan Milleville and Kyle Hendrix, but the Eagles slipped out to a nine-point lead, 20-11, at the half after holding the Cats to a Milleville field goal and a Taylor Luckado free throw in the period.
The Wildcats, under the tutelage of coach Terry Johnson, appeared to settle down and adjust to the Eagles’ intensity better in the second half. Still, Eagleville outscored them 12-8 in the third when Chad Rusk, Anthony Brown, Luckado and Milleville scored for Tullahoma.
There was lots more rough and tumble action in the fourth when the Wildcats finally showed more firepower with an 18-point effort. Will Casteel led the way with five points, including a three-pointer at the buzzer, and Milleville added four more to his team-high 11-point effort.
The Wildcats will be back in action Monday night at home against Warren County with the girls game starting at 6:30.
