WINCHESTER---The Franklin County Rebels (2-0) hung onto a share of the early district lead with a 46-40 win over the Tullahoma Wildcats (1-1) Tuesday night.
Neither team looked particularly impressive in the first half when the Rebels managed to slip out to a 20-14 lead. The Wildcats got good shots throughout the half but were never able to consistently score. Luckily for them, the Rebels were having the same problem.
Things heated up immediately in the third quarter. After combining for just 34 points in the first half, the two teams scored 33 in the third period. Adam Barnett nailed a couple of 3-pointers for the Cats, and Tyler Hatfield hit another one, but the Wildcats only managed to cut the deficit to five going to the decisive fourth quarter.
The Cats battled to within a basket midway through the period when sophomore Tryston Horton scored six straight points in just over two minutes. They had a chance to knot it up at 40-40 but missed the shot, then Franklin County scored the next four to make it 44-38 with 29 seconds left. Horton added a basket on an offensive rebound, but the Rebels held on for the 46-40 win.
The Wildcats found Ryan Stovall hard to handle inside, and the junior led his team with 12 points, including seven in the third quarter. Cass Barnes had 15, and Horton added 14 for the Wildcats.
Tullahoma has another big district showdown Friday when 2-0 Columbia comes to town. The girls’ game starts at 6:30 with the boys following.

Wildcats (40) Tyler Hatfield, 3; Tryston Horton, 14; Adam Barnett, 6; Cass Barnes, 15; Alan Prince, 2.
Franklin County (46) P.J. Burks, 10; Southern, 4; Taylor, 3; Thad Sanders, 10; Ryan Stovall, 12; Stinson, 3; Dixon, 4.
