CLARKSVILLE---The Tullahoma High School Wrestling team came to Clarksville for the 2008 Tennessee State Duals this weekend without filling one weight class due to illness, another starter out with injury, and at least 2 others wrestling injured but full of enthusiasm. With the frigid temperatures outside and a full gym of 4 mats inside Tullahoma gave it all they had to beat their first round opponet Greeneville High School 40-39 in an overtime decision. Tullahoma jumped out to a quick lead 15-0 lead by 2 pins by Ziad Aboulmouna & Sunny Knight as well as 2-0 close decision by Trevor Schmit. However things looked grim when Greeneville reeled off 5 straight wins including 3 pins, a 5 point tech, and a 4 point major decision putting Tullahoma down 15-27. Then Cody Quick stepped in and reversed their fortunes with a decisive pin followed by 2 more pins by Taylor Roper and Wesley Foutch. The heavyweight match of Taylor Roper included a one point unsportsmanlike conduct for a headbutt against Greeneville that would later make the difference in the match. Then when the 112lb match was announced Coach Otto and Lester had brillantly thought to forfeit and move Will Norris up to 119lbs for an offsetting forfeit for Tullahoma putting Tullahoma up by a 6 points 39-33 with one more weight class. Thullahoma lost that last decision by pin knotting up the score 39-39 and a hush came over the entire gym until it was decided that Tullahoma had won due to the first criterion in a tie breaker...the previous unsportsmanlike conduct call. The final score 40-39 Tullahoma and Cody Quick picked up Trevor Schmit and tossed him into the air!

After 2 hours between contests Tullahoma's next match was against Nashville Independence who had already beaten THS earlier in the year at the Tullahoma Duals. Tullahoma jumped out to an early 3 point lead with the 4-3 win by Sunny Knight. The small lead did not hold up long with 4 straight losses by Tullahoma making the score unsurmontable 3-19. In fact the closest Tullahoma would be was 5 points. The final score was 23-40 and Tullahoma dropped into the consolation bracket to face on Saturday their last year Coach Jimmy Miller at Science Hill High School. The Wildcats wound up losing that bout 42-26.
